Melinda Ramirez of Cuyama Valley gets the win after giving up 47 runs

Melinda Ramirez is a softball pitcher for Cuyama Valley High School in New Cuyama, California.

She probably didn’t know she was headed for the record books last Wednesday when she took the field against the Coast Union Broncos Tuesday night. But she made the record books for sure!

She was the winning pitcher in a game that ended with a final score of 48-47. No, that is not a typo. Final score 48-47.

Ramirez gave up 47 runs on 21 hits in a complete game. She did some damage as a hitter going 3 for 6.

The history books still need to be checked, but it is hard to imagine that any pitcher in softball or baseball ever gave of 47 runs and got the win!
