Coach David Ramirez of Pueblo East High School suspended
By moderator on May 18, 2011 with Comments 10
David Ramirez is the head football coach at Pueblo East High School in Pueblo, Colorado.
Multiple sources are reporting that he has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation into an incident that occurred at the school between him and a 17 year old male student.
The school is not saying a word, but KRDO.com is reporting that the 17 year old made a joke about Coach Ramirez’ girlfriend and it was not well received.
A witness quoted on the KDRO site that “Coach Ramirez was jumping over the desk to get to him and when he did get to him, he grabbed him by the shoulders and threw him down. When he was making his way back to his desk he picked up a chair and threw it at him,”
David Ramirez is a well liked coach and if this story is true it is certainly an anomaly. It’s hard to believe how one smart mouthed kid can cause so much upset within a school.

Ok, I am a bit suprised at all the people who are supporting the this coach for the mere fact that he has turned the football team around…. If he was the academic teams sponsor and behaved in such manner would everyone still be saying that oh he made a mistake and should return to his position at East High school. Because it is such apopular sport does not make it right to excuse his loss of self control. We tell our children to learn self control. I do not deny that students need to learn to be more respectful to adults no doubt. I know this young man and coach has joked with him many times at practice in the same manner, so the student took the same liberty. I work with children and families myself and you expect to hear things that are meant to get under your skin. It happens in the real world everyday. If he were in a grocery store and grabed someone who made a comment he did not like to his girlfriend it would be a criminal charge why, because he is the beloved football coach should he get any special treatment. He has turned the program around but the boys that played for him got there winning attitudes from their middle school coaches thats were it started… My question to all those defending him, is have you been to East game… I have seen him on more than one occasion lose his temper and put his hands on students…. much like his own high school football coach. He did bully and intimidate students in the field unless you were one of his starters… If this situation is allowed to go unpunished it will prove if you are in the big boys circle of football than you can act like a barbarian and it does not really matter. I personally love football but it is time to make everyone accountable teachers, coaches, and students.

I have to agree this person has no place teaching or coaching our boys. What turn around. I have gone to games where this man was blaming the boys on the sideline get rid of him before something worse happens. If they reinstate him ot will show that D 60 could careless about our children

If this were my kid, this would not fade into a speed bump of mr ramirez’ career.
No one gets to lay a finger on my child or any other in the school system.
Bad judgements are bound to happen.
Loosing your cool and yelling, fine.
Bad language, ok.
Punch, throw and kick a student?!from the article I read about this incident, it sounds like 9 eyewitnesses are going to put our tax dollars into a disrespectful child’s bank account.
When we pay your salary- you better learn to educate and have self control when interacting with our children.

I understand the situation should of never happened, however the students now days have very little respect towards adults not to mention Educators. I believe Coach Ramirez is very well liked and has done a great job turning around Eagle Football. I hope he continues his teaching and coaching career at East High School.

This is one situation he has done more that improve football he has helped students and their families is ways you wont know because those things are not done for attention. I think that we all need to be careful being judgemental. He is a good person who reacted in a bad way

Actions have consequences,even misguided ones.
There is no place for this in ANY educational system. What are we teaching kinds if he is allowed to continue coaching?

I dont think his career should end here what are we teaching kids if he is not given a chance to do some kind of counseling and come back to show the kids you can make a mistake get help and still make something of your life. He is a young teacher. He has helped students in ways you have no clue about. We have all done things we regret but most of the time we have chances to make things right.
