Al Rabe of Jeffersonville and a poor choice of words
By moderator on Apr 09, 2011 with Comments 2
Al Rabe is the head baseball coach at Jeffersonville High School in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
His future as the coach of the Jeffersonville Red Devils is very much in doubt as he has been suspended for using what many believe is a racial slur. During a motivational speech last month, coach Rabe was talking to his team about the basketball team at The University of Louisville when he said
‘You take that bunch of yard apes at the University of Louisville, and you tell me it’s the 12th-best team in the country, talent-wise. But they have won because they give of themselves and they’ve given up their egos. There is nobody on that team that has any NBA aspirations — they don’t care about that.’
Coach Rabe has since said he had no idea that this could be construed as racist and has admitted it was a poor choice of words. Unfortunately for the coach, a groundswell of people want to see to it that he does not return as coach of the Red Devils Baseball team.
Al Rabe is 57 years old.

There is no way that he thought that was a compliment to call black basketball players Yard Apes.
