Tony McGhee and the Southern Vance debacle
By moderator on Feb 20, 2011 with Comments 3
Tony McGhee is a quality coach and he wants to be the new head baseball coach at Southern Vance High School in Henderson, North Carolina.
McGhee is ready to go, and the School Boards own recommendation committee has signed off and recommended the coach be hired immediately. And now you get to the pencil pushing bureaucrats on the school board that have once again delayed officially hiring McGhee. It now looks like it will be March 14th before they will even reconsider the hiring.
Now the school board has no problem with McGhee at all. They would just rather a teacher fill the position and want to make sure that no current teacher wants the job.
How long does it take a school board to find out if a teacher wants to be a baseball coach? Would they have to have ANY experience or qualifications? This job has been open for a good while since coach Bill Hillier resigned after one season.
The reason this is becoming comical is the season has started, most teams have already held tryouts and are scrimmaging, getting ready for the season. Southern Vance doesn’t even know who is going to be on their team yet.
Pretty soon, games will start being forfeited.
Congratulations Vance County Board of Education for really looking out for the best interest of the kids!!!!
