Ben Chobhaphand of Forest Hills suspended for recruiting violations

Ben Chobhaphand is the men’s basketball coach at Forest Hills High School in Forest Hills, Queens, New York.
He was suspended Monday for the rest of this season and all of next season over recruiting violations. The Department of Education will not elaborate on the stiff suspension, but they were clearly convinced that they had ample reason to believe that Chobhaphand had violated the anti-recruiting rules.
The rule simply states “no school, through any of its officers or by any other means shall directly or indirectly induce any student to sever connections with his/her school or to transfer schools for athletic purposes.”
The suspended coach has not made a statement publicly about his suspension. Chobhaphand allegedly tried to recruit a player from Francis Lewis High School, who later ended up at Queens High School For Teaching.
Chobhaphands’ Ranger basketball team is preparing for a playoff run, but they will have to do it without their head coach.

Recruiting violations are rampant. Is this really a story?
