On Friday night, Stony Point is gonna get served up a huge batch of humble pie. For the last few years you guys have carried on like a bunch of morons. Your fans and students have been a-holes, and you carried yourself with absolutely no dignity.

I have been to the games, and many times it looked like an episode of planet of the apes with the screaming and yelping. Well that won’t be happening this year.

In fact, I bet Stony Point doesn’t even put the apes in the seats for this game, since it will cost 8 bucks and they know they can’t yelp like gorillas while they are losing.

DeSoto blew the fuck out of Stony Point 42-7. Be careful Tigers as you step off of that high horse, your head may get dizzy from the elevation change.

Stony point had a decent run, but they are about to go back to being an insignificant pile of dope smokers and gangsters like they have always been.

Maybe the band can flash gang signs during halftime to scare the other team, believe me, nothing they put in a uniform scares anybody.

The aura is GONE. The coaching staff isn’t all that, and it never was, they were just fortunate to have some game changers that they don’t have now, period.

Right O “Game”. Let the great Head Coach and his coaching staff do something with this bunch. I would like to see a newspaper story on the decline of the program and what the Head Coach is going to do to turn this train wreck around. How could it happen? Chesser’s philosophy or anyone else’s doesn’t mean a thing without having the right material to work with. Hand out the Rolaids at the gate. Film days on Saturday are not going to be as much fun anymore. The only thing this bunch can do is get to the bus on time for the ride to and from the game. The time has all but run out on the Stony Point football program. The other sports programs will feel it too very soon. Baseball team might have a decent team this year but after this year that program will go down the tubes as well. Watch SP slide slide slide baby. You have to have chicken to make chicken salad sports fans. Stony Point jump in the car with Round Rock. They will make the ride down the hill a little easier. All the coaches at Stony Point right down to the badminton coach, should be very happy they’ve had a talented group of athletes with a lot of heart come through SP in the last three – four years. The coaches will never tell you or the kids but it certainly made their jobs a lot easier. Anyone got any thoughts on how many more games ole Stony will win this year.

  10. Interesting.... says:

Recap on May 16 Budget Workshop – pertaining to ATHLETICS: Long but worth the read:
The discussion began with a look at the revised list of cuts. Central Administration took the suggestions our trustees made at the previous workshop and re prioritized the cuts accordingly. Athletics had been moved up and split between #’s 4, 7, and 12. 4 and 12 is where the salaries for coaches had been placed, and 7 is where the $113,000 for B teams had been placed. This was a huge jump from #32 on the list.
RRISD was told last week that we will be getting a one-time Federal Grant worth $6.9 million to hire staff that directly effects the student population. It was determined that with the list prioritized as is, cuts 1-16 would be saved using this 6.9 million. This means athletics would be saved and we would get our coaches salaries back. There is one unknown, each high school principal will have the discretion to use the salaries reinstated for 4 and 12, for a coach, or for some other position.
As the discussion about moving cuts around on the list continued, Diane Cox suggested that Athletics should not be prioritized over some of the other things. Kathryn Hanna agreed, no other trustee commented at this point.
So, later on, Diane Cox again stated that things such as Athletics, Fine Arts, and TAG should not be saved over things such as Dyslexia teachers, English as Second Language teachers, Special Education teachers and Interventionist. For clarification, those cuts being saved in the “Top 16” includes 136 jobs that will bring back some of these positions. Diane Cox then asked for a principal from an Elementary, Middle, and High School to speak to whether the suggested “top 16” would be their choice for ”top 16”. The Elementary School Principal (apparently the only Elementary School Principal allowed to speak is the Laurel Mountain Principal) said that Athletics and Fine Arts would not be in her top 16. The Middle School Principal (again apparently anointed speaker by Dr. Chavez) said that Athletics and Fine Arts would not be in her top 16. The High School Principal (Dr. Presley from Cedar Ridge) said that Athletics was extremely important at the High School level. His coaches aren’t just “coaches” they are also teachers and interventionist on a daily basis. Athletics keeps kids in line, keeps their grades up, gives them discipline, drive and the desire to be successful academically. Without the desire to be successful academically, none of the dyslexia, ESL or any other teacher can do much good (ZING!!!)
Tony Garcia (works for Dr. Chavez in Central Administration) then got up to also say that she believes athletics and fine arts should not be saved over interventionist, ESL teachers etc. She said that Trustee Romere had stated that from the beginning Dr. Chavez’ goal was for all areas to feel the effects of cuts, and that it is not fair that athletics was not getting anything cuts.
Trustee Romere stated that she would not be for any cut that affected students’ ability to participate and that is what the proposed athletic cuts were targeting.
Then A.D. Loerwald presented a slide show which proved that Athletics is a motivator for kids to succeed academically. The slide show went to fast for me to get all the data, but in a nutshell:
    1. 30.57% of RRISD students participate in athletics
    2. Across all races (Hispanic, Black, White, Asian), Athletes as a group perform better than the general population in the following areas: passing rates, TAKS scores, Commended scores on TAKS
    3. And yes, our coaches act as interventionist/teachers every day, all day, with our athletes
Trustees Glen Colby, Bobby Seiferman, Terri Romere and Brian Sellers said that they were satisfied that the Top 16 were balanced across all areas being affected by cuts.
Trustees Diane Cox and Kathryn Hanna had fundamental issues with Athletics being in the top 16. Trustee Chad Chadwell did not comment.
This is not over. Another budget workshop is scheduled for May 31st and don’t think there will not be more attempts to knock athletics out of the “Top 16”.
If you care about this issue, I would recommend you write your trustees that supported athletics, A.D. Loerwald, and Dr. Presley thanking them for understanding the importance athletics plays in a student’s success.
Also to note, Trustee Romere suggested once again that Central Admin take a good hard look at other areas to make cuts that don’t directly affect students (i.e. central administration). She also suggested that if RRISD employees paid just 25% of their health care benefits that would save the district 5.7 million and bring back all of the jobs that we are cutting.
Kathryn Hanna and Diane Cox said that they feel it would be a waste of Central Admin’s time to look at other areas to make cuts!!!!!!!!! What?

  14. Come over to the Eagle Side says:

    All,
I posted the following on the Houston 5A Message Board but the admin deleted saying it was nothing but hearsay and acquisitions. To me it’s all based on fact and thus I am stating it here to see if I can get anyone to cross over to the Eagle side.

So to get the record straight right away and there are no misunderstandings, I am a GEORGETOWN EAGLE baseball fan. I am true blue through and through and will defend the Eagles until my last breath.

Let me tell you about the day, I became an Eagle fan, you current Georgetown fans may not remember this since your kids were in high school yet. It was back around April 2007, the Eagles played in District 14-5A at that time and late in April the Eagles were playing Westwood with the winner of the game taking 3rd place in district and the loser placed 4th in the district, both playoff spots. Our bi-district was District 13-5A which consisted of Belton, A&M Consolidated, etc… and back then, this district was very very weak. In fact none of their teams would have made the playoffs if they played in District 14-5A. Well the coach stuff of Georgetown saw that the 3rd place winner of our district would have to face the top Houston team in the second round. The 4th place winner would get an easy #1 seed from the weak District 13-5A and a middle of the road Houston team in the second round.

So according to a lot of people on this message board including several Georgetown fans, Georgetown purposely had the tying run get out easily so that Westwood would win the game and 3rd place in the district. You should have seen all the uproar on this message board and even some of the Georgetown folks couldn’t believe what their coach had done. But once all those fans saw the playoff bracket and where Georgetown landed, they all circled their wagons and stayed true to the Blue. Now there was questions that Westwood could have done the same thing but everybody knew that wouldn’t happen since Coach Bratcher is a man of baseball integrity. We went all the way to the regional finals that year and it did seem to work being placed where we were in the bracket. Right then and there I knew I wanted to be a true Eagle fan, they would do anything to go as far as they could in the playoff, now that’s my type of team (those that play in the gray area). My love for the Eagles just kept going each year after that.

In 2008, the term “homegrown” and “senior transfer” was being used by the Eagle faithful to describe their pitchers. The Eagles had some great homegrown talent that year, with Miller being a D1 pitcher and a couple of good junior pitchers as well. But Georgetown knew in order to advance in the playoffs very far, you really had to have 2 great pitchers since playoffs were 3 game series. As luck would have it, god sent us a gift that year in that a pitcher who had pitched Rogers to the state championship the year before, decided to move to Georgetown. Now this pitcher was good, I mean real good. It was just luck that he moved to Georgetown for his senior year but think about it, who wouldn’t want to move to this great city. The only concern everybody had was with the UIL and ruling whether this young man was moving for athletic purposes. Us Georgetown fans said yea right, he is moving because of what the city of Georgtown has to offer, the UIL will clearly see this. Any by “George” (pun intended here), the UIL did agree that he was moving because of what the city had to offer, whoa, that was a close one. Still to this day, some people think we had the UIL in our back pocket but if they would only come to Georgetown to see what the city has to offer, they would know that wasn’t the case.

Well this junge pitcher was a stud! We could always count on him to win whenever he pitched and along with homegrown Miller we had a great 1-2 punch. We won the district that year (first of our 3 in row by the way). During the playoffs, we could always count on him getting his victory for the Eagles. In fact, one series, we lost the first game 16-1 – can you believe that?? But we came back that series and won it. May I couldn’t fathom what would have happen to us if we didn’t have this junge stud for a pitcher that year. Those junior pitchers were good that year but those Houston teams sure can hit the ball. We all know that pitching is how you advance in the playoffs.

Now some non fans of Georgetown still bring up the fact that this player’s bio on UT’s baseball indicates that his hometown is Temple. Hey, the kid only lived in Georgetown for 9 months, what do you expect him to put on his bio?? I wish you all would chill out, it’s a no brainer.

In 2009, the Eagles decided to see what just homegrown talent could do. We won the district for the second year in the row and won bi-district but lost the series in the Area round. All of us Georgetown fans were a little disappointed but yet they did win district. The best part of this year was when we did win the district at the Rock’s home field and our fans rush out on the field along with our players. You should have seen the look in the Rock’s fans and players as our fans came out onto the field to congratulates us. That moment was priceless!!

At the beginning of 2010, things looked a little bleak for us. We had some excellent talent coming back but our pitching was a little thin as far as playoff standards. Again, our baseball prayers were answered. A front desk receptionist job opened up at one of our middle schools. After during a extensive search to fill this position, a lady from Bastrop had just the right skills and talent we were looking for for the job. And holly crap, her son threw a 90 mph fastball, unbelievable how lucky we are. Us Georgetown fans are just so glad that that job opened up at the right time and we found the perfect candidate for the job. I guess the baseball gods are always looking down on us Georgetown fans.

There was still a little concern that his player would be approved for the transfer from Bastrop. For whatever reason, the Bastrop baseball coach and athletic director sent a little to the DEC committee and indicated that they thought he was moving for athletic purposes. What?? No way, his mom has a job in GISD, our coach had never talked to him or seen him play for the Wings (the Wings age group for high school doesn’t play at Georgetown). The Bastrop coach must have misheard the conversation when the player said that the Georgetown coach told him in the summer he would be their #1 pitcher. Well when it was all said and done, we provided those principals all the right answers and they approved him to play for the Blue and White!! With this senior tranfer pitcher and our homegrown talent, we again won Districts for the 3rd straight year. This senior transfer player had a great year, won most of his games and was so good that University of Texas signed him for a baseball scholarship. For all you nay-slayers out there, this player does specify Georgetown as his hometown on UT’s baseball web site, so what do you say about that!!

So this brings us to this year. Like 2009, we are trying to make a go at it with only homegrown players. So far we are doing pretty good, we have won both of our series that we have played and put the Pebble in it’s place. It will be a struggle to win a 4th district championship especially with Stony Point and Leander having some good players. However this week’s games against Stony Point will help determine whether a 4-peat is there. I think by the time we get done with Stony Point this week, changing their motto from LET’S PLAY BALL to LET’S POOP because we are going to make them look like crap. They may have some players but hey, Big Bear is going to Oklahoma (and we know that OU still s…), The Beaz will be The Kman after our pitching staff gets through with him and Heldman will be hog tied after our hitters get done with him.

So all you non-Eagle fans out there, now is the time to cross that line and become a true Blue fan. Our future looks bright even with the new high school opening up in the next year. Heck, just like the Pebble did a few years ago with Stony Point, I am sure we will be offering a program that isn’t offered at East View so in-district transfers will not be a problem. Plus all our players play select summer ball, they have so many select baseball programs to choose from, let’s see there are the Wings and huh… huh… well there are a lot of summer select programs out there, I just can’t think of them all right now.

In summary, Georgetown baseball is a lot like the Yankees, you either love them or you hate them.

This is what I came up with to help you decide whether you want to become a True Blue Eagle fan:

Who loves Georgetown baseball: people who live in Georgetown, “those who don’t play baseball with integrity”, Austin Wings, UIL and potential D1 pitching prospects

Who dislikes Georgetown baseball: people who live in Rogers, people who live in Bastrop, all the district teams that “play by the rules,” the little guy and the underdog

So cross the blue line and become an Eagles fan just like I did 4 years ago. And remember, once you cross over, you will never go back!!!

    Go Eagles.

I hate it for everyone that it happens to, but players will be cut this week and it will hurt like hell. Round Rock fortunately does have a very competitive league for high school age players that want to continue to play. I have coached out there and trust me, kids have ten times more fun playing there than they do in high school.

Just don’t quit if you get cut, there is an alternative….
