    I have been a part of select basketball for the past 6 years and have met a lot of great kids that have great futures in front of them. By far, the most discouraging part of my experience has been the parents, particularly the dads that think they are either NBA players or think that they are experts because they sit on their ass at home and watch games on TV. Not only do these dads badmouth other players to try and promote their sons, but they also bad mouth the coaches and spread their cancer to other parents. Sadly enough, mnost of the time these “Experts” often don’t have the money to pay their dues, etc. There is always an excuse. Maybe your sons don’t play every minute of every game because they aren’t good, are selfish, and have bad attitudes.

    Once your son is part of a team- keep your mouths shut unless you can be encouraging and a proactive part of developing the team. None of you all are professional coaches. Also, keep your tempers under control. Screaming at officials, opposing coaches, or opposing fans is not only embarrassing to yourself, but it humiliates your child.

    It will be more than sad when the kids of these idiots decide enough is enough and quit sports because of the pressure and embarrassment.

    Competition is very important and serves as a great lesson for the kids. HS sports is about the kids- not about disgruntled dads tha weren’t any good when they played and are indirectly taking it out on their kids.

    Keep your mouths shuts, be positive role models, and support the team and coachings staffs. None of you are celebrities, professional coaches, or experts. Quit embarrassing yourselves and your kids.

      are you stupid? 15 new kids coming back is good and all but for you to think that theyre going to make an impact, youre dumb. a kid coming back into football after just playing baseball, basketball or even nothing is not going to improve anything. besides both of those sports havent achieved much in the past couple years.

    I don’t want to rain on the parade, but we will be challenged a lot this year. our team speed is really bad. We have smart players this year, no doubt, but we will be slow.

    DB’s running backs and receivers…. you name it… we just dont have the threats like in the past.

    On the other hand, that might be a good thing, ,,, we might actually be forced to balance our team and spread things out instead of trying to let a couple of studs do all the heavy lifting.

    My BIGGEST concern is defensive secondary and preventing the deep pass. We got a couple of fast kids back there… but they are gonna have to pick up the new schemes fast with the new coach.

      I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised. All of the players feel like they have a clean slate and all positions are open and favoritism is out the door. It is very optimistic among the players.

    There was a time when I had a kid in Round Rock baseball. Langerhans coached him up to his junior year.

    We were devastated when Coach left. And we were shocked when Carter was named as his replacement. At that time, we had proven coaches from all over the state trying to get that job.

    We passed and hired from within. We still made the playoffs, but you could tell then that there was a foreboding sense of decline in all the things that had put us on the map before.

    Carter is a good guy, I would trust him with my kid anytime. But practices got sloppy, and from what I have read here, they still lack intensity.

    The biggest single difference I have seen over tha years is the unwillingness to pull a starter when he screws up. Pitchers, Fielders, Hitters, with Langerhans, you were one F UP away from riding the pine.

    Say what you want, but the strategy worked.

    There are guys playing pro ball right now that Langerhans pulled in the middle of a game.

    I see people questioning the stats that got posted here. Fair enough. They came off of the Action Baseball website minutes before they were pulled off that web site.

    Action is using the RR field this summer, so they clearly have to answer to Carter in that arrangement. They obviously got the stats from Carter for the development of the team but I promise you they were pulled down because Carter never wants stats published anywhere.

    Never, Never, Never, does Carter want stats published. They call his decisions in to question and he hates that.

    FYI, the stats posted were for district games. When I can figure out how to make it legible, I will post pitching and fielding stats as well.

    And beleive me it aint pretty.

      Personally if they came from JC I know they are ficticious because he has kids doing them and the kids come in after the play and tell them what to write down. Face-it there should be a official scorebook upstairs in the press box with someone who has baseball knowledge. I said it once and will alway say post those stats in the dugout and these kids will fight to get better no one wants to be on the bottom

      Your facts are somewhat skewed. You claim that Carter NEVER wants stats published. Last season and even the year before, they were in the American Statesman every Tuesday. That is a fact because I read them. When I talked to Carter at the start of the season, he wouldn’t let the players run out to their positions as they were called out (I announced many games and I asked him if he wanted to do that like the previous year), and he didn’t want to send stats in to the paper because he didn’t want any individualism. He was trying to stress team over individual. I am not endorsing this, because baseball is different from other sports and I see nothing wrong with publishing the stats, but that is his call.
      Maybe Carter doesn’t want to be questioned…maybe you are right, but Johnny’s motivation has always been with the best intentions, whether they worked out or not. Your explanations are pure speculation and what YOU think is true.
      As for the kids keeping the book, I’m sure there was lobbying going on, but Carter checked the scoresheet after each game and he and Rod both kept cards and made notes and corrected what needed to be corrected. Baseball scoring is subjective anyway and even with a knowledgable scorekeeper, the official baseball rules gives the scorer a lot of leeway in how he scores.
      Hope this clears things up a bit. What’s done is done and as it looks now, he will continue as RR coach. Deal with it.

        No corrections were made. BS stats were sent in to the paper. Elander, a couple of years ago, for instance hit like 600 with only one error all season, yet I personally watched him make 3 in pflugerville in one game, so please stop defending the crap stats that WERE released. Its better now that he doesn’t post them, cause he’s not publishing a lie that way.

        We all need to stop putting lipstick on this donkey and calling it beautiful

    Look, Round Rock is hemorrhaging in all sports, not just baseball. Our football team is horrible, our baseball team is horrible, our basketball team is horrible, our softball team is horrible.

    Should I go on?

    Round Rock is becoming a joke and I really hope that the new AD Cheatham can pull it together, though I doubt he can do much, since our principal is the real AD at Round Rock.
