Statistics, if accurately gathered, can provide a manager with an advantage in any given situation. That is fact. Anyone here that wants to argue that fact is beyond logical discourse anyway. So my words are lost on them.
Stats are not brain surgery, and it doesn’t require a ton of time to develop these numbers. With each game you have new stats. As a season progresses you have more knowledge, as well as more accurate statistics as the season rolls along. Things become much more predictable. That is what stats can do for a team that is on top of them and actually uses them.
Look, this is not my theory, Abner Doubleday knew about stats for Crying out loud.
How can a manager determine his batting order without stats? Sure, the first game or two you use assumptions. No problem there. That is why we have preseason games, to figure it out.
An earlier comment said Round Rock doesn’t report stats is because ‘they want the team to concentrate on the teams’ success’ Seems to me a lot of teams that made it to the playoffs last year reported their stats regularly. So does that mean their kids are more disciplined than ours? Less selfish? Less distracted?
Come on, giving a few kids some recognition in the Statesman for putting up good numbers takes away from the team? That is beyond belief. Most of the guys that are starting this year are playing their last season of baseball. They have worked their butts off to get here. And this abstract logic of team focus deprives them of their moment in the sun?
I contend that the prospect of getting their names in the paper for the grandparents to see would motivate them even more.
I would like to also disagree that college scouts do not attend high school games. That is completely wrong and a completely ignorant thing to say. There were scouts at several high school games last year, including Round Rock.
How do the college scouts get there?
Number one, a head coach picks up a phone and tells them about a kid in their geographic region [nearby] that they need to see. Then the coach tells them the kids numbers. REAL NUMBERS. [which excludes round rock players]
Number two, a kid is putting up the numbers, hitting, pitching, fielding, etc…. and they get that from the local media statistics. [which excludes round rock players]
The assumption that players are only discovered during the summer after their junior year might be the most absurd thing I have ever heard. I am not surprised to hear it in Round Rock where people spend more money on summer baseball than they can afford.
Using that logic, the athletes in the Valley or poor neighborhoods where they can’t afford the high cost of “feature summer baseball” don’t ever play college ball. That is BS. Guys that don’t play summer ball make it all the time in college ball.
The difference is, the coaches know the difficulties at these schools so they bust their asses to let everyone know when they have a prospect. They get them a look. They talk to schools and try to help the kids.
Lastly, you made good arguments until you called me a HOMO. At that point you just look ignorant.

Jr youre not a very smart person. If you knew anything about recruiting at all, colleges coaches could care less about stats, “stats are for losers” Will Muschamp. Recruiters dont even come to high school games because they are mid conference and not worried about it. They come and watch the summer after their junior year, and they dont keep a stat book with them at all times and then offer players scholarships based soley on that. And as far a changing a line drive out to a hit because someone hit it hard is ludicrous, that has never happened,, and couldnt becuase the book wouldnt even make sense. Carter does not post the stats to the paper soley because he wants us to be more concentrated on the teams success rather then our personal. As far as the book goes, no one has a say and a team manager does it, so quit trying to find excuses to blame stuff on carter. seriously, I bet you have your little statbook with you right now you homo.

It’s nice the way everyone wants to swear at people that are bringing up valid points. Yes, some of the stuff being said is harsh and possibly unfounded.
I want some of the Carter supporters to please tell me why no “official” stat book is kept, and why Round Rock stats are sparsely if ever reported to the media?
To that end, how do “all-district” players get chosen?
Baseball is all about the numbers. Who puts em up, who doesn’t. Simple as that.
Coaches in LITTLE LEAGUE go by stats, because they are looking for the mathematical edge in the game.
Coaches in LITTLE LEAGUE do not let the Players keep the books, for obvious reasons.
I have heard from NUMEROUS players, that they jockeyed each other to change stats in the book kept on the bench.
Line drive outs were changed to hits because they “hit it hard” … Are you serious?
We aren’t talking about subjective analysis of whether or not a play was an error, as someone mentioned before.
Every other sport at Round Rock, and most other schools have stats out the wazoo, but not baseball. WHY?
Thats all I am asking is WHY?
My assumption is that the coaches do not want their opinons challenged.
Funny thing, stats don’t lie, and they are impossible to defend against when you are on the wrong side of them.
No Stats, No Conflict, Right?
By the way, my son graduated a while back, so this is not a personal issue for me as it is for others. I just follow Baseball in this area and I love this game.
My main beef is that local and national colleges are not getting real nubers throughout the season about this team.
I attended a college mini camp last year and four college coaches told me they did not trust the numbers coming out of Round Rock at all, and they were highly suspect of Stony Point as well, FYI.
This is a nice format to discuss issues that we all care about, and I fully expect to be cursed at again, but I will respect any logical argument against the things I just said.
Thanks
JR

Ok let’s face it.. Round rock has been and always will be a baseball powerhouse. Fucking deal with it. You can nit pick at this and that and everything you want. Elander is an all America you wanna know why? Because he has talent. More than I can say for most of you whiny losers who get on here and bitch all day. I will say this round rock will be winning district and making quite the run at state… Do you remember 1997? Your going to be seeing glimpses of that this yeAr total dominance with talent that could occupy 6 of 9 all district spots or better.

stop being such a bitch. we know that you are a player and that you obviously got cut this year because you have the skills of a five year old girl. go join the band so you can feel special you fucking joke. as for people punching other people at parties, i really doubt it happened like that. at least the player was at a party with a girl. im sure you never have gotten to experience what thats like you fucking homo
fan1
as for padding the stats, there is none of that unless it is a questionable call, in which case ANY TEAM IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD will give the benifit of the doubt to its hitter. if it was a blatant error, then it goes down as an error in the book. learn something about the game or keep your mouth shut

everyone wants to talk about xxxx not hitting over .400 in district, and shit about johnny carter. These are the parents of kids who did not make the team and straight up jealous losers. Get life, maybe you parents should have spent some money to put your kids through lessons. and as far as xxxx goes he started district 7 for 7 and i personally witnessed that. He played in an all american game at wrigley field and has signed a division NLI with tcu, but hey thats just because”he padded his stats,” or rr was “pumping him up,” right?
