Heard rumor of this yesterday, found the following this morning:
“Reported violation by A&M Consolidated could give Belton football another win

The College Station A&M Consolidated football team will be forced to forfeit its last two District 12-5A games, including a win against Belton, for using an ineligible player, according to a report by the Bryan-College Station Eagle on Tuesday.
According to the report, the unidentified player, who was academically ineligible, was a late-game substitution in Consol’s 39-22 home win over Belton two weeks ago and its 32-24 loss at Killeen Shoemaker last week.
The forfeit would improve Belton’s record to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in 12-5A. The Tigers would be in a five-way tie for second place with Temple, Killeen Ellison, Shoemaker and Consol with three games remaining.
“You hate to hear that from anybody,” Belton coach Rodney Southern said Tuesday night. “Obviously it benefits us if it’s true. You hate to hear that about (Consol coach) Jim (Slaughter) and their program.”
No ruling had been announced as to what the final scores would be changed to.
The added victory would help revive Belton’s fading playoff hopes after its 52-26 home loss to No. 7 Copperas Cove last Friday. Belton’s final three games are against Ellison, Temple and Bryan.”
I for one cannot understand how a team can let this happen. First, the kid needs to take responsibility, not just passing the course, but let the coaches know. Second, the coaches need to check each players’ grades after a grading period. And the parents should have been aware as well.
This screws up an already pretty weak district (12-5A) for the playoffs and opens the door for mediocre teams.
